COVID-19: New York prisoners get portable console for not being able to receive visitors |
Inmates in New York City, USA, received a Game Boy clone to have something to do during the coronavirus pandemic. More than 3,800 inmates won a $ 15 portable video game purchased by the city government's Department of Correction.
The notebooks have the design copied from the Game Boy, but with some differences - like the X and Y buttons, missing from the Nintendo console. They do not run cartridges, but games recorded in memory - it is not clear how many or what type of game comes with the console.
Similar consoles sold over the internet usually run emulators of old consoles, including Nintendinho, Super Nintendo, Mega Drive and the Game Boy itself.
According to the Daily News, the laptops were purchased from a distributor for US $ 82,500 for 5,500 devices, of which 3,800 were sent to prisoners.
